Legal
Following release, many women face a host of legal challenges including unpaid LFO’s, child custody issues, identify theft, obtaining valid photo ID and related ID documents, and numerous other legal issues. Sources suggested include the following:
- See all Chapters of the Washington Reentry Guide (in SUGGESTED READING & VIEWING) many of which deal with specific legal areas typically seen upon reentry.
- The Washing State Pro Bono Legal Council has provided detailed 2020 contact info on all Washington State Offices (see SUGGESTED READING & VIEWING); many services are free or on a sliding fee scale.
- See DISQUALIFYING CRIMES AND NEGATIVE ACTIONS (see SUGGESTED READING AND VIEWING) that details the most recent disqualifying crimes and negative actions relevant to DSHS program areas.
Financial
Many financial challenges exist for those recently incarcerated, including opening bank checking and savings accounts, establishing credit, setting up a budget, and many other financial issues. Recommended resources include these:
- See Chapters 2, 3, 11, and 12 in the Washington Reentry Guide (IN SUGGESTED READING & VIEWING) which address debt, education and loans, LFO’s, and other government benefits.
- See Session 13, PERSONAL FINANCES, RET Student Manual (see web page SUGGESTED READING & VIEWING)
- Clinton Taylor, CEO of “Your Money Matters Financial Counseling” has been part of the Rotary Reentry guest speaker team at WCCW; PO BOX 52 Auburn, WA 98071 | 206.636.2828 | ymmm.info@gmail.com
- Dave Ramsey and “Financial Peace University” offer a very basic but comprehensive course on personal finance that many have found useful; this course is faith-based and found at https://www.daveramsey.com/fpu
